Everything is better with bacon right. Of course it is! When you have a get together, football party, or you are thinking of appetizers for the holidays I always think bacon!! Here is a great bacon bites recipe that is easy to make and has a great sweet n savory flavor that even kids go wild for. (affiliate links present)

Brown Sugar Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Bites

They not only taste devine but look pretty too. You only need 4 ingredients to make these bacon bombs I call them. There are two methods to try as well. Jelly and barbecue sauce works great, but brown sugar smokies style using just brown sugar is great too. If you have had these with weiners inside you do the same but with fruit!

Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Bites in Air Fryer

Below we will explain how to make these in your oven. A more recent alternative has been to follow our air fryer bacon wrapped smokies recipe, using fruit instead, to get them the crispiest ever!! I mean I serve these as a Super Bowl appetizer and they fly off the plate, like I cannot make them fast enough for everyone there.

 best bacon appetizer

Ok so I bet y’all have had this but with little tiny hot dogs in the middle right, or maybe made Bacon Wrapped Chicken Thighs before?? That is where we started of too. Then I got the hankering or sweet and savory combined.

Using canned fruit this is an easy one to do that. There are other options out there but you want something firmer. Freshly cubed fruit would work well. I like pork uncured slices too but Turkey Bacon in the Oven is a lower in fat option.

Ingredients

  • Bbq sauce of your choice
  • Grape jelly (really!) this will make it more like candied bacon
    • alternatively you can sprinkle brown sugar over the top of all of them
  • Pineapple chunks out of the can
  • Bacon – I like the maple flavored bacon personally but choose whichever you like as far as that goes.
  • Want them spicy? Sprinkle a bit of red pepper flakes on top too!

Can you use fresh pineapple chunks?

You can use fresh pineapple and cut into chunks which is heavenly or just use the canned version which is totally fine. Fresh is actually not as sweet and more firm so there will be a slight difference.

How do you keep bacon from unrolling?

Then get to rolling….. A tip I will pass along is you should only use regular toothpicks to keep these in place. In the past once I had colored and didn’t think about how that would affect things. It did leach out and created a weird look to them so wanted to pass that along. ๐Ÿ˜‰

How to Make Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Bites in Oven

First start by spraying your baking sheet, then preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Place a slice of bacon down and roll the piece of pineapple up into it.

Put a toothpick in if you desire or wait until they are cooked and put them on the side. Do as many as you want or until the pan is full. You can place them pretty close together but I wouldn’t let them touch. Reason being is the sauce is pretty sticky. It may make them stick in one chunk and hard to break apart for serving.

Mix your sauce together which is just 1 tbs. barbeque sauce and 1 tbs. grape jelly. If you want lots of sauce just use this same ratio of 1 to 1 bbq sauce and jelly. If you are using brown sugar then that is all you need. We like the tangy Asian sauce on our Chicken Bites Recipe too.

Remember, this will become sticky and caramelized. Use non stick aluminum foil or spray with cooking spray first. You can jump to recipe to print it and get started, but here is a quick step by step first off;

  1. Cut bacon slices in half, I just cut the whole package in half and peel back the plastic.
    • When cooking bacon this way I prefer regular vs. thick cut bacon for these
  2. Drain a can or cut up a fresh pineapple into 1.5×1.5″ pieces to make great finger food sizes
  3. One at a time put one piece of chunk pineapple inside the half piece of bacon strips and wrap up.
  4. Secure each one with a toothpick so it stays together tightly.
  5. Do this until all bacon is gone and wrapped on pcs. of pineapple.
Arrange them on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with non stick spray.
  6. Whisk together your grape jelly and bbq sauce. Use a bbq brush to brush this mixture on top of each piece of wrapped bacon.
    • or roll each one in a bowl of dark brown sugar
    • you could sprinkle red pepper flakes if you wanted them spicy too
  7. Put into preheated oven at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until bacon is as crisp as you’d like it to be. Remove and serve hot on a serving tray.

Once they are done you can serve more sauce on the side for dipping if you want. Warm it first and it is an easy appetizer recipe everyone will love. Here are other great bacon recipes like bacon smokies you see here, bacon wrapped smoked jalapeno poppers and more that are to die for as well!

Can you use canned pineapple to make bacon wrapped pineapple bites?

Yes! Use chunks instead of tidbits so they are bite sized and larger. Using half a slice of pork strips you can wrap them nicely to cover and secure with a toothpick. Fresh pineapple works too, just cut into 1×1 inch squares or so for an easy finger food appetizer with barbecue sauce outside.

Can you make Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Bites in the air fryer?

Yes. Preheat machine to 350 degrees F and air fry Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Bites for 7 minutes or so. They are done when the bacon slice wrapped around the fruit is browned, the sauce is caramelized and looking sticky. Best if served warm immediately.

How to save leftovers

If you have leftovers after everyone has enjoyed a few of your bacon wrapped pineapple bites recipe they save well. You will definitely enjoy them later, best if reheated the next day. Just pop a few into your air fryer at 390 degrees F for like 2 minutes to heat and crisp again and pop them in!

Other bite size appetizers you’ll love

Want to make the same thing with a different inside, like meat? Try these but instead like salmon bites with fish in the center but the rest would remain the same to add salty and sweetness. Now pop down to read and print recipe and let us know if you tweak it some more.

Want another bite size food to serve to your guests so they have lots of choices? Make salmon sushi cups with these for a fun meal.
